Lake

Viešūrs is located at the northern side of Gaiziņkalns. Watching from the top of the mountain, it seems that the lake begins almost at the foot of the mountain, but in reality from Gaiziņkalns to the lake there is 1 km.

Viešūrs is the highly located lake in Latvia. Lake area is 166 ha, or 1,66 million m2. Depth of the lake is of 6 to 9 meters, but in some places there are deep depressions in 20-30 m and even up to 35 m. The average depth of the lake is 10 m.

The volume of water in Viešūrs is about 16 million cubic meters and as many tons in weight. Such water amount can fill the 12 m wide and 10 m deep channel from Riga to Gaiziņkalns. If the waters of Viešūrs could be moved to 1m wide and 1/3 deep channel, then it would be possible to go on a canoe and a length of such a canal would encircle the entire planet.
